THE WHY: The Owner’s Story
Dr. Ramzi Haddad’s journey began in 1982 in the United Kingdom, where he completed a fellowship in Oral Surgery. After 14 years of practice in various GP and Oral Surgery settings, his wife Sima inspired them to move to Canada, where they have since raised two lovely children and grown two successful general dentistry practices. Uxbridge Dental Suites is his latest initiative just north of Toronto in the historical town of Uxbridge, Ontario, where they now reside. Dr. Haddad is a passionate GP that has taken his commitment to dentistry to new heights by opening a “referral-based surgical practice” that also provides “clinical mentorship” and “treatment planning support” services to other GPs. It was designed and built as a space where he could share his 40 years of clinical experience with the next generation of dental professionals.

Introduction

Third molar teeth extraction is one of the most frequent dental procedures in the United States. Many general and maxillofacial surgeons and dentists advocate for the prophylactic removal of a 3rd molar tooth to prevent certain health conditions or minimize complications of already deveoping disease states (McArdle, McDonald & Jones, 2014). Evidence-based studies indicated that removal of the wisdom teeth, especially in young, healthy teenagers, reduced operative and postoperative complications and morbidity. But increased complications and morbidity have been documented in the elderly patients following extraction of the 3rd molar teeth. These complications included infections, dysesthesia, and alveolar osteitis (McArdle, McDonald & Jones, 2014). According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAMOS), age affects different parameters involved during the extraction of 3rd molar teeth such as symptomatology, periodontal pathology, caries, and post-op complications.

Since receiving my fellowship in oral surgery from the UK I have spent the last 40 years of clinical practice in General Dentistry Settings learning, teaching and mentoring while continuously developing, expanding and honing my surgical skills as a practicing GP.
